Flight Dynamics Operations Engineer
Overview
InspeCity is seeking a Flight Dynamics Operations Engineer to bridge the gap between theoretical astrodynamics and hands-on, real-time space operations.
In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and operating advanced algorithms that power our manoeuvring and robotic spacecraft.
You will not only architect the Flight Dynamics System (FDS) tools—such as custom orbit determination filters and attitude estimators, automated manoeuvre planners, and conjunction assessment pipelines—but also step onto the console to execute critical orbit operations, analyse satellite telemetry, and lead real-time anomaly responses.
If you thrive in high-stakes operational environments and love converting complex orbital mechanics theory into production-ready flight software, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
Must-Have Skills:
Bachelors/Masters in Aerospace/Electrical Engineering, Astrodynamics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Space Sciences, or any other related technical field.
Solid grounding in orbit determination (Kalman filtering, batch least squares), orbital propagation models, maneuver execution, probability and state estimation.
Proficiency in Matlab/Python or C++ applied to technical/scientific computing (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) with test cases, and clean version control habits (Git).
Hands-on experience analyzing spacecraft telemetry (GNC, ADCS, or propulsion) or supporting active space missions on console.
Experience with standard astrodynamics frameworks such as Orekit, GMAT, STK, FreeFlyer, or SPICE kernels.
Good-to-Have Skills:
Experience with robotic or proximity-operations missions (Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking - RPO/RPOD).
Hands-on experience with telemetry data pipelines and visualization tools (e.g., Grafana).
Prior experience handling Conjunction Data Messages (CDMs) and interfacing with space domain awareness organizations (e.g., EU SST).
Knowledge of CCSDS/TNCAP telemetry standards and ground station pass management
Beyond technical capability, we care deeply about how our team members work. In space operations, the margin for error is thin, and operational execution relies on team alignment.
We evaluate candidates against three core principles:
Integrity: You hold yourself to high ethical and technical standards. In satellite operations, transparent communication—especially when things go wrong—is vital. You report errors immediately, share raw data honestly, and prioritize mission safety over pride.
Ownership: You don't wait to be told what to fix. Whether you spot a manual process that can be automated, an edge case in a navigation filter, or a silent telemetry drift, you take initiative to investigate, build a solution, and see it through to completion.
Showing Up: You are dependable when the mission counts on you. Whether it’s an early-morning pass during LEOP, an urgent midnight conjunction event, or a routine team design review, you show up prepared, present, engaged, and ready to support your crew.
