InspeCity raises $1.5 million for servicing satellites, building 'space cities'
Spacetech startup InspeCity has secured $1.5 million (Rs 12.3 crore) in a pre-seed funding round co-led by deeptech venture capital firm Speciale Invest, Antler India and Veda VC. The round also saw participation from Anicut Capital, DeVC India and others.
Aiming to build the first city in a suitable orbit between Earth and the moon, spacetech startup InspeCity has raised $1.5 Mn in a pre-seed funding round led by deeptech investor Speciale Invest. The startup’s vision is to address the problem of resource scarcity on Earth. It is currently developing enabling technologies for building such cities, with autonomous robotic platforms, the technology that allows it to service satellites in all orbits.

InspeCity signs the 250th contract of Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of Ministry of Defence, and first under Mission DefSpace. The contract was exchanged between Additional Secretary (Defence Production) & CEO Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) Shri T Natarajan and CEO, InspeCity Shri Arindrajit Chowdhary, one of the winners of the challenge ‘Micropropulsion system for cubesats’.

Mumbai-based and IIT Bombay-incubated InspeCity is a satellite servicing startup that offers satellite life-enhancing and deorbiting services, positioning itself as the ‘space mechanics’. The spacetech startup is working on developing an autonomous robotic platform on top of ISRO’s polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) stage four’s module, the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM). This will allow InspeCity to service satellites in space and is a step towards a larger plan of building an orbital habitat around Earth’s orbit.

InspeCity is one of the 15 SpaceTech startups which have been selected for the Taiwan Accelerator Plus - International SpaceTech Startup Supporting Program. This gives a chance to interact with the space industry while encouraging supply chain matchmaking and also engages the startup ecosystem.
